Chest lifting

Over time, due to age, pregnancy, weight gain or loss, gravity, and structural or genetic causes, the connections between the breast tissue and the anterior chest wall loosen, resulting in sagging breasts. These sagging breasts can be treated with breast lift surgery. This surgery is usually performed when the breasts shrink due to breastfeeding after they have enlarged during pregnancy, or when breasts sag and lose their aesthetic appearance. The nipple is turned down and sinks in with sagging breasts. At the same time, asymmetries and differences in the breasts can be corrected by performing breast lift surgery.

Before breast lift surgery

  • The doctor should meet with the patient and discuss all the situations and make the decision accordingly.

  • Mammography and ultrasound imaging should be performed in patients over 40 years of age, in patients who have previously had risk factors detected in the breasts, such as breast lumps, or in case the patient's close relatives have breast cancer situations.

  • The surgery takes about 1-3 hours depending on the procedure being performed.

  • The patient must tell the doctor what medicines she is taking. If these drugs interfere with surgery, the patient should stop taking them for a period of time before surgery.

  • If the patient is a smoker, she is recommended to stop smoking before surgery to speed up the recovery process.

Is the implant used for breast lift?

Implant placement differs depending on the size and structure of the patient's breast. If there is no excessive sagging and the size of the breast tissue is suitable for implant placement, we can achieve a lifted breast by placing an implant alone. However, if the breast size has shrunk significantly, breast lift alone may not be enough. In this case, performing both breast lift and implants placed in the same surgery can make the breast bigger.

I had congenital breast asymmetry. I appreciate my doctor's help with my problem. I am grateful to my dear doctor and his assistant Mrs. Inci. They helped me with everything, answered all my questions, could reach them whenever I wanted.

How is breast lift surgery performed?
Mild Prolapse:

The breast is lifted by making a small incision around the nipple. The procedure is performed through the nipple by reassembling and raising the breast tissue. We get a lifted chest.

Moderate prolapse:

If there is slack or excess skin in the lower part of the breast, the skin is taken from that area to reassemble and tighten the breast. A downwardly extended scar will be seen under the nipple.

Significant prolapse:

iIn this case, certain techniques are used and at the end of the operation a scar is formed with the shape of a straight line going down from the nipple or with the shape of an inverted (T) letter.

Because both the connective tissue that holds the breast and the tissue of the mammary glands are thinner and flaccid, the incision will come down from the nipple.

The nipple is suspended upward after the tissues are reassembled. Surgical drains that drain blood to prevent blood pooling in the chest are placed after surgery.

3rd method:

In addition to placing an implant to give the breast the correct shape and firmness, fat injections are injected into the breast area to get more regular tissue during breast lifts. This method is considered the most expensive of these three methods.

The doctor will decide which of these methods is most suitable for you by taking the necessary measurements and procedures during the examination.

1st method:

Lifting and mounting the breast without placing implants or performing fat injections. This method is considered the least expensive.

2nd method:

Placing an implant while lifting the breast tissue to adjust breast size and stiffness. This method is slightly more expensive than the first.

  • It is enough for the patient to stay in the hospital for one night after the operation.

  • Surgical drains are removed on the 2nd day after surgery, depending on the situation.

  • It is recommended to wear a non-wired bra for the first 3 months after surgery.

  • The scars of a breast lift operation are in their final state after about 1 year, over time the color of the skin changes.

  • Exposure of the incision to sunlight should be avoided until the surgical incision turns white.

After breast lift surgery

Even if there was pain on the first day after surgery, these pains can be easily diagnosed as the patient will spend her first day after surgery in the hospital.

  • Depending on the degree of relaxation, the patient can return to work within 7 days.

  • It is recommended to avoid strenuous movements for the first three months.

  • We must not forget that it is possible for breasts to sag again after surgery due to childbirth, weight gain and dramatic loss.

  • It is possible to get swelling, numbness of the nipple and a difference in the color of the breast skin, but all of these symptoms are temporary.

  • Due to the protection of milk ducts and glands during breast lift surgery, there will be no problem with milk production.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible that the breast will sag again after breast lift surgery due to weight loss, etc.?

Breast lift surgery does not stop aging, breasts continue to change shape due to the natural aging process. However, with breast lift surgery, this process is somewhat reduced. During breast lift surgery, the breast and fatty tissue are lifted with tight sutures. Over time and with excessive weight loss, this fat and breast tissue shrinks and can cause some sagging.

Why do breasts sag?

Breasts droop due to pregnancy, excessive and rapid weight gain or weight loss. Aging and some genetic factors.
